Some colleges and schools will use a panel approach, and our Hearing Officer/Decision-Maker two-day event is the right training for panel members. But, other schools and colleges will appoint a voting chair of this panel, or will use a single decision-maker, who is both the hearing officer and the chair. This course is for those chairs/decision-makers, and should be taken in combination with the Hearing Officer certification for those who want to address substance (policy definitions and application), not just process.
The Chairs certification course features a full-day online live training covering in-depth the topics of pre-hearing procedures, exchanges of investigation materials, understanding the difference between relevant evidence and directly-related evidence, assessing credibility, controlling questioning (with exercises), managing cross-examination, facilitating deliberation, and outcome rationale writing exercises.
