500 million readers come to Wikipedia each month to grow their understanding of a topic; their behavior; and ultimately, of the world. When scientists add neutral, fact-based information to the site, they help inform policy makers and the public on the critical role science has in our world. Our Wikipedia writing group gives participants the dedicated time and support to engage in this science communication on a grand scale. Participants met online once a week to add peer-reviewed research to physics articles on Wikipedia. Over 12 weeks, they learned the ins and outs of Wikipedia as a public education platform. They joined their peers and Wiki Education’s Wikipedia experts in discussions around information activism, open knowledge, and high-impact science communication.
