#Envision2030 Wikipedia Training Certificate

In 2015, the United Nations General Assembly set the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)—17 global goals to help transform the world by 2030. These goals range from ending poverty and eradicating hunger to achieving gender parity and increasing access to reliable, clean energy. SDG #4 aims to "ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all." Keene State College, Plymouth State University, and Wiki Education are already working toward the important vision outlined in SDG #4, as these institutions were built on the premise of educating the public. Keene State has led a major initiative to encourage faculty to adopt and develop free Open Educational Resources (OER) in order to bring substantial cost savings to students and to develop innovative Open Pedagogical approaches to prepare graduates for the needs of a changing world. Wiki Education trains students and academics how to communicate academic knowledge to the public via Wikipedia, promoting continued learning for both the trainees and Wikipedia’s 500 million monthly readers. Wiki Education’s programs engage participants in Open educational practices— especially the process of creating OER to transform teaching and learning. Together, we can amplify these missions and inform the public about how to achieve our shared vision for the present and for 2030 and beyond. This project, #Envision2030 at Keene State, includes a specially designed Wiki Scholars course. This course is an in-depth, structured training about how to contribute to Wikipedia that gives experts the dedicated time and support they need to learn how to join this community, and incorporate digital literacy and open educational practices into their classroom. In a Wiki Scholars course, Wiki Education facilitates collaborative work among participants, immersing them in the world behind Wikipedia. Wikipedia experts provide structured training and guidance as participants write and expand Wikipedia articles about important topics. This will in turn, provide participating faculty with the ability to bring these skills to their students. By working together to expand Wikipedia’s coverage of important topics like reducing poverty and building sustainable cities, participants work together to champion the laudable Sustainable Development Goals.
