To attain the PIMFA ESG Academy digital badge, participants have completed and passed assessments and assignments within three modules. The Academy comprised of:
Module 1: “The fundamentals of ESG” debunks many of the common misconceptions around ESG; walks advisors through future regulation on ESG that will impact them before highlighting the opportunities that ESG presents to advisors, their firm and their clients.
Module 2: “In data we trust?” is where advisors learn how to carry out advisors own ESG research. By examining and understanding the different methodologies used by leading ESG data providers, advisors have the confidence and competence to scrutinise the quality of ESG data presented to them to inform their clients more effectively.
Module 3: “Talking with clients” walks advisors through the steps of having an ESG conversation with a client or prospect. This includes preparing for the meeting or conversation; articulating the business case for ESG; handling difficult questions right through, to outlining appropriate next steps.
Skills / Knowledge
- Meet and recognise their clients’ demands for ESG investing
- Explain clearly and succinctly ‘what ESG investing is and is not to their clients and prospects
- Provide a reasoned point of view about ESG investments when scrutinised by their clients
- Use appropriate tools and portals to identify suitable investment paths for their clients
- Develop opportunities for advisors and their firm by guiding clients towards ESG investing
