The Nutrition Excellence Award is presented to students who earn an "A" or higher in the Contemporary Nutrition (FSHN 120) course. As part of this course, students acquire knowledge about the fundamental principles of human nutrition and their application to the selection of an adequate diet for health and wellness. Additionally, current nutrition topics of importance are discussed. This course is provided by the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition .
Students who complete this microcredential will be able:
List essential macronutrients and micronutrients and their food sources
Explain and discuss functions of nutrients
Analyze a personal diet record
Evaluate the validity of nutrition/health claims
Identify nutritive and non-nutritive components of food that may protect from disease
Develop a life-long interest in nutrition
