Teaching + Learning in Art and Design

Stephanie Ostler

A workshop series for aspiring, new and experienced educators alike, Teaching + Learning in Art and Design explores the role of an educator at the intersection of art, design, learning and community. Through seven key stages of the teaching and learning process - from determining your personal philosophy as an art and design educator, to creating lesson plans that capture differentiated learning techniques for diverse classrooms - these workshops draw from your creative practice as artists and designers, to implement inquiry-based teaching and learning, develop art and design learning experiences for diverse educational contexts, and help you build a community for sharing and learning from peers. Through the successful completion of the course, students will be able to: 1. Write a teaching statement and personal philosophy 2. Learn methods to enable participation through critical-inquiry 3. Understand the different roles and functions of an educator 4. Plan a lesson using different modes of inquiry 5. Create rubrics that demonstrate different assessment methods 6. Conduct a micro-teaching session using methods and techniques acquired
