Introduction to Creative Placemaking

Danielle Moriarty

Sponsored by Civic Arts & ELGL, this six-week learning opportunity was designed for busy local government staff who are currently working to develop and implement creative placemaking projects and processes in their communities. The cohort-model learning process allowed local government practitioners in any department to enhance their knowledge on how arts and culture-based strategies can help them to meet their local community goals. The cohorts had a set of six weekly meetings that provided opportunities for participants to learn how to develop strategies, build specific creative placemaking project management skills, and identify the potential opportunities and challenges that can arise in cross-sector work. Throughout the six weeks, cohort participants supported one another’s developing knowledge and understanding of creative placemaking tools and strategies and received individual mentorship through Zoom calls with Executive Director, Dr. Osgood to help create their own individual project plans.
