Transferable skills are often assumed in university students; however, employers in many organisations complain that students have sufficient knowledge but struggle to adapt to the workplace. Government, universities and industries all expect that graduates are work-ready but research suggests this is not the case. Academics now have to embed these skills into subjects to develop students’ skills beyond academic knowledge. Therefore, this course will focus on six desirable transferable skills. These include communication, critical thinking, problem solving, teamwork, adaptability and resilience, and leadership.
