Certified Public Works Professional - Management (CPWP-M)

The Certified Public Works Professional - Management (CPWP-M) is issued to recognize individuals in the public works field who have the knowledge and experience to manage departments within a public works organization. It is intended for public works managers, superintendents, and supervisors ready for management positions. To demonstrate eligibility, candidates must submit an application documenting the following requirements: * Completion of one of the following educational and work experience pathways: - High school graduation or equivalent and 7 years of public works experience, with a minimum of three years of supervisory experience in public works. - Associate degree or trade school certificate with equivalent credit hours and 5 years public works experience*, with a minimum of three years of supervisory experience in public works. - Bachelor’s degree or higher and 3 years public works experience*, with a minimum of three years of supervisory experience in public works. - Completion of the Certified Public Works Professional-Supervision, with a minimum of three years supervisory experience in public works. * Cover letter explaining why the individual is seeking the certification * Complete Resume/ description of relevant public works supervisory experience * Agreement in writing to adhere to the APWA Standards of Professional Conduct * Completion of an APWA Nationally-Approved Public Works Institute may be used to substitute for two years of public works experience. It may not be substituted for the required three years of supervisory experience. The CPWP-M credential is awarded upon successfully passing the 150-item examination covering management functions of the following 10 public works domains: * Budget and Finance * Communications * Human Resource Management * Procurement and Contract Administration * Administrative Functions * Project Management * Emergency Management * Asset Management * General Public Works Operations The CPWP-M certification is valid for 5 years.
