CP306A: Google Container Engine and Kubernetes

The idea of deploying code in containers has grabbed the attention of the industry. Containers offer a uniform and lightweight way to deploy code to testing and production environments. With the proliferation of containers and complex high-availability configurations the management of containers becomes an important challenge. Google has used containers for software deployment for over ten years. The Kubernetes open-source project capture Google’s and other industry leaders’ best knowledge related to the creation and orchestration of containers. Google Container Engine is Google’s managed cloud service offering of the open source Kubernetes project. Kubernetes is an orchestration manager for Docker containers running in production environments. This one-day course introduces the student to Google Container Engine, a cloud-based service offering of Docker and the Kubernetes management system. Through a combination of lectures, labs, and quizzes, the student will learn about the architecture and major working components of Kubernetes.
